If you follow my twitter, you’ll know that a few months ago I did a boudoir photo session as a birthday present for my husband.  I hadn’t known what boudoir photos were until just this year, after looking at other photographer’s blogs, of course!  And for those of you who don’t know, they are photos that show off a woman’s true beauty… and they can range from conservative to mysterious to risqué.

I was first introduced to my boudoir photographer, Lily, of bllew photography, through a friend.  She had been shooting portraits and weddings with her husband for quite some time now but wanted to expand her repertoire into boudoir sessions.  I was a little skeptical about the whole idea since I tend to get camera shy — especially in situations where you have to flaunt yourself — but my friend had already done a session and convinced me that Lily would make me feel at ease so I agreed to do it!  I happened to be flying out to San Francisco for a wedding and we’d be staying in a hotel that next weekend anyways so it was really perfect timing…but that also meant I only had a few days to figure out my outfits!  I reeled in another girl friend of mine to do the session with me too which ended up making the experience even more fun.   I ended up bringing a boyfriend shirt, dress, the first top my husband gave to me, jacket, boots, pumps, and tons and tons of accessories!

On the morning of the session, my friend and I woke up early and headed to local MAC store to get our makeup did!  The makeup was caked on, smoky eyes were set, and our fake eyelashes were SUPER long!  Then we headed back to our hotel where we ended up curling our own hair.  Lily arrived shortly after and we began the session, all while jamming to some tunes!  My friend and I changed from outfit to outfit and alternated shoots.  Lily was able to direct us in the best poses so we didn’t even have to do any of the thinking on our own!  At first we both definitely were more stiff and uncomfortable but in no time, we were extremely comfortable with Lily and the camera.  Three hours, many outfits and thousands (OK, maybe just a few hundred) of photos later, we were all done!  And I am so glad that I gained a new friend and sponsor in Lily and bllew photography.  🙂

So pretty much most of the photos are for my husband’s eyes only, but we did take a few that I felt comfortable sharing with you all.  Please don’t take these images without my permission (not that I think you’d want to).

I always have a hard time shopping for my husband (well essentially I just buy him clothes all the time) and I totally think this is a perfect gift for an anniversary, birthday, Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day (for you Midwesterners), it’s definitely a unique gift too!  If you live in the San Francisco area or have any trips planned that way, I highly recommend boudoir by lily! She can either come to your hotel room or you can have your session in her studio!  And even better, come back tomorrow for a fabulous GIVEAWAY to bllew photography! 🙂
