Today I am SOO excited to introduce to you my sponsor, Sweet Lydia’s, you know the one over there on the right that makes you salivate every time you look at my page (or is that just me)? Sweet Lydia’s shop is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth with its array of s’mores, marshmallows, and pretzels! She even makes custom favors too, perfect for weddings, showers, and parties! I first found out about Sweet Lydia’s through a facebook contest where she was giving away a package of s’mores to the 400th person to “Like” her facebook page. I found out about this contest on twitter and knew I had to enter! Lo and behold, I was her 400th “Like” (and she’s now surpassed 600+ “Likes”)! I was sent a variety pack of s’mores and let me tell you… they were all AMAZING!!!! I pretty much ate most of them and I only saved one for my husband, oops!
{MEET THE SHOP OWNER}
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Call me crazy but I’m a Massachusetts transplant from New York City. Cooking is by far my favorite hobby. I want to travel everywhere in the world and I’m slowly crossing countries off my list. I didn’t care at all about wedding stuff until after I got married and started making custom wedding favors. Now I can’t get enough of wedding blogs and love working with brides! Most of all, I absolutely love making marshmallows.
2) How did you get the idea to start making S’mores?
I was not completely satisfied with my full time job and found amazing stress relief in baking. I’d come home from work and experiment until my kitchen was covered in flour and sugar. My world changed when I made marshmallows from scratch for the first time. They were unlike anything I have ever had. I immediately started experimenting with different flavors and new I had a winner when I made them into s’mores at a friend’s bbq one weekend. I knew I was on to something when the s’mores went from DIY to the chocolate covered, individually wrapped sweets they are today.
3) What are your most popular flavors?
The most popular s’more is definitely the Original, followed closely by the Peanut Butter. My personal favorite is hands down the Peppermint Chip and I have a line of customers who have been waiting patiently for these minty s’mores to return!
4) Have any advice for new shop owners?
1 – Be enthusiastic about the things you love and others will gravitate you.
2 – Know your weaknesses as well as your strengths; there are definitely times where it is worth paying someone else to do what they do well instead of trying to save money by doing it yourself.
3 – Don’t be shy about self-promotion (who else is going to do it for you) and
4 – Don’t be shy about asking for something, the worst that someone can say is “no”
