{MEET THE SHOP OWNER}

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you decided to open up shop?
I live in Minneapoils, Minnesota, working full-time as a writer/editor, but my passion is hunting for vintage clothes. I started an etsy shop, Salvaged Strawberry, about four months ago, and it has been an amazing and fun experience. I also sell my vintage goods at pop-up sales in Minneapolis (in fact, I have one coming in February and I am super excited about it!). I live in a small duplex with my partner and our two pugs, Parker and Scarlett. One of our best friends
lives next door, so it’s pretty perfect. I LOVE finding vintage treasures, whether I am scouting out thrift stores, estate sales, garage/tage sales, or a good ol’ church rummage. My biggest problem: there’s just not enough storage! My basement has turned into a vintage shop — it’s full of racks and boxes of shoes/purses. It’s fun having friends come over and shop in my basement. 🙂

2) Sometimes shopping vintage in stores can be tiring and a lot of work, got any tips?
I understand that shopping for vintage can be a lot of work. You have to dig through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. But for me, I truly ENJOY the hunt. I love digging through boxes and walking through old 1950s homes. Most times, I sit on the floor and just start digging in. I do this a lot — sit next to the record stack at a thrift store. I don’t like to rush, I like to take my time and enjoy it. As far as tips go, I usually pick two to three sections when I go thrifting, and really focus there. Usually that’s dresses, housewares, and purses. If I am still feeling motivated then I keep going — usually my cart is full by then though. 🙂 I also just walk down the aisle looking at colors and fabrics that jump out at me. I sort of skim. This makes it so that you can get through the store quickly, too. My best tip is to hit up the church rummage sales in your area. That’s where you can find the BEST bargains.

3) What is one thing you are looking forward to this Winter?
I am really looking forward to taking a knitting class. It starts at the end of January and I can’t wait! I’ve been so inspired by these gals’ shops: Knelly Bean, Susannah Bean, and Bradee Homemade. I can’t wait to get started! I’ve had two friends already ask if I can teach them once I learn so we can have knitting parties. 🙂

4) What is your favorite dessert?
My favorite dessert is anything chocolate!
