Ever since the craze for peter pan collars on tops and dresses began, I was hooked.  But when I was introduced to the shop, LAB, who makes collar NECKLACES, I thought that was genius.  Leave it up to yourself to add a collar to ANY outfit or wear it as a necklace.  And seriously, one look at this shop and you will fall in love with the beautiful variety of collars that it offers plus other unique and vintage jewelry as well.

{MEET LAURA}

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started up shop.
My family has always been extremely resourceful — practically everything my parents own, they’ve built with their own two hands. When I was younger, I loved going shopping, and I can remember how annoyed I’d get when my mom would say “you could make the dress!” But at some point it all clicked, and I began learning how to to everything myself, from cooking to car repair. I loved the permanence of working with metal more than anything else, and my love of fashion coupled with my desire to work with brass, steel and copper created the natural progression into making my own accessories. After college I worked as a theater costumer, and then as a personal stylist, but my need to create my own work won out in the end and LAB was born. LAB’s inspirations come from many places; inherent girly-ness, my intense love of junk shops, medical curiosities, Alice in Wonderland, Vladimir Nobokov’s Lolita, and lots and lots of 80’s new wave. But my biggest inspiration of all comes from living in the creative hub that is Brooklyn, New York.

2) What is your favorite way to style a collar necklace?
I love collar necklaces because they really are so versatile — an easy standby is to dress up a basic crew neck sweater, but I am also really loving the oxford style collars being worn under the actual collar of a button up shirt, like a funky double collar. But my very favorite above all is with a low scoop neck or strapless dress, on bare skin. Gorgeous!

3) What are your favorite color combinations for the Summer?
I’ve always been terrified of white, but for some reason, this summer I am intensely drawn to it. I dream about white, flowy cotton sundresses. I’m loving all the different shades of coral and tangerine as well, but I think my very favorite summer color combination right now is mint and peach, with gold accessories. Obsessed.

4) What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Sweet cream ice cream mixed with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff — the fluffernutter! I promise you, this is real! And it is heaven.
