My Word For 2013: Present

Along with my unofficial New Years resolutions I’ve made, I’ve decided to jump on the blogger bandwagon with the “one word” for the year type of post.  For those unfamiliar with this, it’s where you choose one word to focus on for the New Year (perhaps in lieu of a list of resolutions esp. if you are prone to breaking those early).  I don’t go down too deep into my heart too often on here, but I thought this timing was appropriate.

This year, I have decided to focus on a word that I think will bring greater happiness and fulfillment to my life.

Present.

BEING present.  Living in the moment and not capturing my life through tweets and photos all the time (Instagram makes this especially hard for me) but rather capturing it in my memory.  Having conversations with people face to face.  Lifting my head up away from my cell phone, computer, TV, any electronics when people are talking to me.  Unplugging once in awhile and be OK with it.  Enjoying every little moment I spend with my baby boy (it’s only weeknights and weekends and that’s not enough)!  Enjoying the moment and not always looking forward to the weekend or the next event going on.  Taking time to stop and notice the beauty in nature that surrounds me.  Waking up with a smile every day and try to stop myself from nagging my husband in the morning before work.  And dance like nobody’s watching.

I want 2013 to be amazing and I know it will be in so many ways.  And I want to be PRESENT so I can live it to its fullest!

What “one word” would describe how you want to live out this year?

  1. Amen to that! After spending most of my work day in front of a computer, I still spend an appalling amount if time on IG, FB…it’s never ending. I started dabbling in blogging when I was on my first maternity/bonding leave. Posting dwindled away when i returned to work but the social media addiction remained! I’m with you in this one! (and maybe the eyelash extensions too!)

  2. present what a great word sandy!! i think it is hard to be present these days especially with all the technology pulling our attention to every direction.

  3. I love your sweater! My word for 2013 is fearless. This year I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and do more things that scare me!

  4. My one word would have to be two words.. “Take Chances”.

I suck at taking chances and always follow whats expected so in 2013 I want to step out of my comfort zone.

  5. That is such a great word for 2013! I think I’m going to use it too! I love your outfit girl! Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Would you like to follow each other?

  6. i think this is a fabulous idea. i don’t know what my word would be. joy maybe…find the joy in everything i do and all that is around me.

  7. Great outfit, Sandy. I like the one word idea…you are the first blogger I’ve seen mention it, so woohoo to you! :)

I’m not sure what my one word would be. Hmmmm

  8. I think that’s a great word to focus on for 2013 Sandy, and one I could definitely focus on myself! It’s hard to really live “in the moment” sometimes. Also, can I steal this adorable outfit?! Love it!

  9. I love those shoes! “Present” is a wonderful word – I tend to get caught up in things that are going on outside of what’s happening in the moment… I’m trying to be more present too!

  10. LOVE this idea. I think for the next FBFF I’m going to have to pick one work for 2013 and write about that. (Feel free to link up this post if you want.) Present seems like such a great, all encompassing word. Good luck living this in the months ahead! – Katy

  11. So simple but something we usually tend to forget… We get caught up in many things and we are all over the place, talking from my own life though… Anyways great thing what you wrote and love your style =)

  12. My word for 2013 is “Patience.” I have so many wants/needs right now (DH’s contracted job is up at the end of Feb, our house has been on the market for 4.5 months, I dream of starting our family soon).

I’m trying to breathe and live and let the universe steer…

  13. Present is a great word for the year. I have a really hard time with staying away from social media and really conversing with people in “real life.” I think most of us, especially bloggers, could really work on that.

  14. Love your “Present” for 2103, just do it.
Taking time to stop and notice the beauty in nature
that surrounds us and dance like nobody’s watching.

  15. Love it! That’s a great life lesson that a lot of us need to work on!! I have 4 resolutions for 2013. But my one word would be “local.”

  16. Great post! I can’t get over your heels! They are too cute and you paired them with the perfect outfit! Lovely styling job :) happy new year!

  17. Oh hello lovely shoes!!
I have the same goal…living in the now..trying to not be too obsessed with social media and internet..tough time to be a blogger, right? lol But it’s really easy to get engrossed in all of it and forget sometimes to just live, love and laugh with the people in front of us.

  18. first and foremost how I just want to say that you look alluring in all these photos. The red and leopard combination really suits you pretty well!

  19. Love the red throughout your outfit and what a great word. Esp will little ones, being present is so important b/c the time certainly just flies by! I haven’t given much thought to my one word, but I suppose it would be thoughtful or mindful.

  20. This outfit is all sorts of fabulous. The stripes, the leopard the cuffed jeans… AHHHH love it.
