In Love With Rachel Mason Photography (Attention Kansas City Area Pet Owners!)

{website} {twitter} {facebook}

Today, I’d like to introduce you to one of my newest sponsors, Rachel Mason Photography, a Kansas City area pet photographer!  Rachel works at a veterinary clinic so you know that she must be good with animals.  And her photography… it will just make you go “Awww”!!  There’s definitely an art and talent involved in photographing animals, as we all know that they don’t always “sit” and “stay” like they’re told.  So having a photographer, like Rachel, that is familiar with photographing animals, is definitely ideal!

{MEET THE PHOTOGRAPHER}

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A little about me…well, I am wife to a very handsome man and mom to 3 sweet dogs and 1 bad cat. We currently live in Kansas City in a fabulous old home and enjoy thrifting and antiquing in our spare time. I am a Colorado native and miss my home state very dearly. I love drinking coffee, going to the movies, playing with my dogs, taking walks with my husband, and my iMac. When I am not working as a Veterinary Technician at a multi-doctor practice, I am photographing the pretty details in life…specifically pets. Rachel Mason Photography offers a unique documentary-style of pet photography. No velvet sofas or pre-determined poses. I capture your pet enjoying everyday life with a sprinkle of dirt and a dusting of magic!

2) How did you get into photography? What camera/equipment do you use?
My father was a hobby photographer and was incredibly talented. He shot with a Hasselblad medium format camera and developed all of his own work in the dark room he had built in our home. As for me? For as long as I can remember, I always had a point and shoot, disposable, or polaroid camera in my hand capturing as many memories as possible. Then 6 years ago my husband gifted me my first DSLR. That camera and I were inseparable. We went on many road trips and 2 cruises together. I opened an Etsy shop and photographed all of my inventory with my beloved Canon Digital XT. Last year I upgraded to a Canon 50D and we’ve been best friends ever since. For a more detailed list of the equipment I use often and absolutely love click here.

3) Describe your style of photography in 3 words.
Detailed, Candid, Beautiful

4) What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
That’s easy! Wedding cake flavored gelato.

It was great getting to know you Rachel! 🙂  And here are a few more photos of Rachel’s work!

If you live in the Kansas City area (or will be visiting with your pet) and are interested in a photo session, click here for details on the investment.  And Rachel is also offering 10% off her basic session fee if you mention my one year blogiversary (offer is only good through this Sunday, so get on it!) 🙂

Doesn’t her work capture animals so well?  Growing up my Mom and brother were allergic to pets so didn’t have any in our house.  But when I was in high school, we had an outdoor kitty that we found in our backyard that we took in as our own.  Her name was Mandy… my name is Sandy, duh, and my brother’s name is Andy so I thought it was only fitting! 😉  She used to give me these paw hugs and it would absolutely melt my heart!  So since then I’ve been a cat person… don’t get me wrong, I do adore dogs too~!! 🙂

Are you a dog or cat lover? Or another pet?

    I think her photography might be worth a trip to KC!! I’d have so much fun having my pets photos taken! I love both cats and dogs. Right now “I” have two dogs. Which really means my parents have two dogs because my landlord is an animal hater. 🙁

    Learn to respond to a nickname from an early age. From the very beginning, say the puppy’s name slowly and clearly to get his attention and associate the name with each command. Wait for the moment when the puppy is alert, so that it is easier for him to react, and call your pet over to develop obedience skills. I also advise you to study this Animal blog in more detail
