Closing Up The Etsy Shop Sale!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have heard, but I am planning on closing up my etsy shop.  I don’t have a definite time frame that I’ll be closing it up for, could be a few months or it could be forever.  Or I may actually just put it on vacation.  Does anyone know, if you officially CLOSE the shop, can you reopen it again? I’m going to be traveling tons this summer and between blogging and work and just keeping up life with family and friends, it certainly wouldn’t be easy.  As you handmade owners know, between making items, taking pictures, posting them, and making frequent trips to the post office, it definitely takes a lot more time and effort than it may look!  I currently have a good amount of inventory leftover from recent craft fairs I’ve been apart of, so I plan on listing those items within the next few weeks.  So there will probably be a few more months until I fully close up shop, but just wanted to give everyone a head’s up.  I hope you understand!

I’ve honestly had a lot of fun with my shop.  I’ve made a lot of handmade business owner friends, have truly learned what it takes to have a shop open, and learned a little bit about customer service as well.  I definitely want to THANK all of the people who have helped me in getting started with the shop, given me advice on how to improve my shop, and of course to all those who have made purchases and kept me in business!!  🙂

Here’s some of my newest inventory, just listed!! 🙂

And to celebrate, from now through June 4, 2011, take 20% off your order with code MEMORIAL!  Please help me clear out my inventory if you can!  You can bet that all orders will get FREE EXTRAS as well!!  All of my items would make great gifts, just saying!!  😉

wow, sandy i had no idea, but i understand where you’re coming from. no way is having a handmade business easy so it’s a much needed break, i’m sure.
look at me, talking like i’m a handmade/Etsy seller, haha! i just wanted to let you know that there’s no hard feelings. 🙂
glad to hear you’re still going to be blogging, though! keep up the great posts…

I can totally relate and completely understand. I’m not sure if you can close and then re-open, but I truly love vacation mode, because it does give you the liberty of re-opening if you choose to do so. I’ve had moments myself when I’ve considered closing, because like you said, there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes with owning a shop. You’re such an inspiration and I love all that you do for the handmade community!

I can understand, Sandy, and yes, you can close the shop and reopen it in the future There is a post about it on one of the Etsy blogs I just read recently. I’ll see if I can find it and email it to you. Then you don’t have to lose all the work you put into setting it up.

I look forward to following all your adventures this summer, which I know will be fantastic, and wishing you the best with your shop sale!!! Wishing you and Marvin a great weekend ahead. xoxo – g

I agree with Tiffany – I was so surprised to hear that! But totally understand how busy life can be, especially between all your traveling, working, house hunting, and all your real life stuff in between. Good luck closing up shop – you have so much cute stuff, I’m sure it’ll sell out fast! 🙂 Hope to see you back on Etsy one day 😉

PS I would just put it in vacation mode with a little note saying that you will be closing up shop for a while.

    Sandy,
I am really sad to hear this but I can relate! It takes so much work to keep a business going. Feeling overwhelmed myself lately! You have so much going for you that I am sure it will be nice to focus on family and friends a little more too! Will spread the word about the sale!

Oh Sandy, it’s a shame you are closing up but I can understand where you are coming from. I love my items from your store and I’m sure I will get more items before you close 🙂

  29. June 2, 2011 / 9:12 pm

sad to see you leave but totally understand… can only do so many things, and it’s challenging when one takes up so much time but doesn’t necessarily yield the return you want. regardless, you’ll see in a few months if this was the right decision… if you start it up, at least you’ll know exactly how to do it! so talented.
