Family Photos at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats

A few weeks ago, Eileen of Buena Lane Photography (San Francisco based photographer) was stopping through Utah and had asked me and my family if we wanted to take some photos at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I only had about a week to get everything ready, but of course we said YES! We’ve lived in Utah now for 3+ years and still hadn’t visited the iconic location so it was we thought it would be a neat opportunity to go and to get some family photos done. We hadn’t done an official family photo this year and what better place than a the Utah Salt Flats! We went on a Sunday evening around 6PM on a cloudy hot day in July. The location that we went to was off the Bonneville Speedway and pretty much the landscape is salt, hard crunchy salt!  As you start driving, all you see in the horizon and all around you is SALT, it was SURREAL.  The only landmark that really helped you out was the faint mountains on one side. The kids had a blast running around on the salt, and the car’s tires and bottom got a good dose of salt on it (car wash was needed the next day). We were able to take photos for about 45 minutes before it got super windy and salt started blowing everywhere.

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a place that you should definitely visit if you are making your way through or to Utah. Unlike Saltair, this location has no bugs and you get the purest form of the salt everywhere and nothing else. Oh, and if you need a good meeting point or rest stop for a bathroom break, you can head into Wendover, where it’s like a mini casino resort town and they have hotels, casinos, gas stations and fast food restaurants for your dose of civilization. I’m happy that we were able to get these photos captured at the Bonneville Salt Flats, definitely will be framing some! 🙂

Also, thanks to Brittany of Tanglez Hair and Makeup for doing me and Vivian’s hair! 🙂

Beautiful photos and the location is marvelous! I haven’t seen a salt flat myself but I can imagine how fun it would be just to frolick and run around it! Frame these photos for sure!
