Dear Austin: Eight Weeks

Dear Austin,

In this past week, we really started nailing down a schedule!  You eat between 4-5 ounces each feeding about 6 times a day.  You’ve started to sleep for longer stretches of time, especially at night where you can sleep up to 4 hours or so max.  We’re so proud of you for being able to sleep so long and not going to lie, it gives us a little bit more time to sleep as well.  :)   Your constantly amaze us wit new facial expressions, especially your new favorite one, the pout.  Mommy, Daddy, Ah Ma and Ah Gong all melt in your hands at that one.  You’re also really ramping up those vocal cords and talking up a storm these days.  We can’t always understand what you’re saying, but we will one day, I promise!  Oh yea, another thing that happened is that for some reason you started sucking on your pacifier so hard that it leaves marks on your face sometimes, too funny!

Your new favorite place to go this week was none other than Target (it’s one of Mommy and Daddy’s faves too).  We put your car seat carrier in the big part of the shopping cart and for the first half of the trip you were looking around in utter amazement.  There were so many new things you hadn’t seen before and of course looking up at the lights was probably your favorite.  And then after about 15 minutes, you fell fast asleep as Ah Gong pushed you around the store.   Then the day after that, Ah Ma and I took you for your second stroll around the neighborhood.  You’re so lucky that the weather has been unseasonably warm this February so you could go out to play!  Oh and one last thing, you wanted me to tell the world that they better watch out, Jeremy Lin ain’t got nothing on you.  You’re already spinning basketballs at only eight weeks old!  ;)

Love,
Mommy

Today I am so excited to share with you a new favorite online store of mine, Karen Kane!  Since I’ll be going back to work in just a few short weeks, I was really excited to find out about this shop since it has a ton of great stuff for business casual attire.  I love it when I can wear clothes casually AND for work.  Remember the polka dot blouse I wore the other day?  It’s just the perfect top for all sorts of occasions, like work, going out for a date, hanging my with my girl friends, anything!  And their new Spring 2012 collection?  It’s got a ton of aqua and coral colored clothing so perfect for the season!  Read on to learn more about Karen Kane and enter a totally awesome giveaway!

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you decided to open up shop?
We shipped our first season in spring of 1980. It’s been an incredible ride since then. My husband, Lonnie, and I met at a company we both worked at, and decided that we could be doing things better than how we felt they were being done in fashion at that time. We launched the company out of our garage and worked 24/7, knowing it was exactly what we wanted to do. It was definitely risky, and tons of people told us we were crazy for trying to start our own company. Thirty years later, it’s as exciting as it was back then, just a little bit more comfortable doing it out of a headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles rather than a garage!

2) Where do you draw fashion inspiration from?
Everywhere. I’m constantly looking for new ideas and checking out what everyone around me is wearing. Whether you’re aware of it or not, every morning you make decisions regarding your personal style and choose to dress in a particular way for a reason. I’ve always been fascinated with how people make their choices about what they want to wear, and what drives them to pick the pieces they do. Fashion is always changing, which is what keeps it interesting for me.

3) What are your favorite color combinations of the moment?
I’m in love with bright colors for spring and summer, but it’s impossible to discredit the importance of neutrals this season as well. Stark white has been a huge trend and will continue to be. I always love stripes and prints, so those are very big for me as well. In terms of our collection, spring consists of a warm, colorful mix of aqua, cream, coral, blue, light brown, champagne, turquoise, and white. There’s a little bit of something for everyone.

4) Who are some of your favorite style icons?
Audrey Hepburn is a classic, and Karl Lagerfeld’s ability to define a brand is awe-inspiring. I also have always looked up to Ralph Lauren and the incredible brand and sense of lifestyle he’s built as well.

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a Kansas City Blogger Meetup!  A bunch of female bloggers (of all sorts) got together to eat, drink, talk about blogging, and of course, we took a picture or two (or more).

We met up at a lounge and Jeanee  and Emily decorated so nicely with streamers, flowers, chevron napkins, cupcakes, cookies and more!

That’s Betsy, Erin, me, Ngan and Sandi!

It was great to see Michelle again as well as meet up with other old friends  and make some new friends~!

Leopard print shoes were totally the trend of the evening!

And lastly, me, Meggy and cute preggo Ngan just HAD to go around and take some outfit pictures!  Guess where we went?

In case you were wondering, here’s the deets to my outfit.  I’m a walking ad for forever 21 and target…

chambray shirt: forever 21 | raspberry skinnies: target | leopard shoes: target | leopard belt: forever 21

Yea that’s right, these outfit pictures were taken in the bathroom, there’s a first time for everything huh?  If you’re a style blogger, you know how it is always trying to find new locations for photoshoots!

It was such a nice break to be able to get out for a a good ole Ladies Night.  But of course, I couldn’t help myself but spend much of the night talking to other moms about our babies… and how to manage blogging + babies and all the other household chores you can’t forget about.  There’s only 4 weeks left of maternity leave and you can bet I’m cherishing each and every moment of it!  And can’t wait til the next meetup!  :)

Pass It Forward

Today, I am super excited to share with you a project that has the capability to change the world, one kind act at a time.  Ashley, the amazing voice behind The Shine Project has come up with this wonderful project called, Pass it Forward.  It’s about giving back to your community, committing random acts of kindness, and working small miracles in the lives of those we pass.  Stuff like this just puts a super duper huge smile on my face!  :D

Pass It Forward was designed to get people to do little things, everyday, that makes an impact on the community around them. Pass it Forward is designed around a card. Each card is given a unique ID number. Lets say we’re at McDonalds, and I decide to pay for the person behind me in the drive through. I’d give the cashier the card, and tell them to pass it along to the next car when the give them the food that has been paid for. I then go home and log into the website that was on the card, and find my unique ID number. I log into it, and add my information… My first name, city, and a description of what I did….
Let’s say the person behind me was you, you would pass it forward to someone else, and then would go home and do the same thing. From the very beginning, you will be able to track where your card goes, and how many people you affect just by doing one simple act of kindness.
Isn’t this idea so truly amazing and inspirational?  I haven’t decided just yet what I want to do with my card, but I can’t wait to share what I end up doing~!  The possibilities to affect others are truly endless.  I hope that all of you end up with this card someday and share what you do with it.  To find out more information, visit The Shine Project!
I hope you all have a beautiful and wonderful weekend!  :)
