Hi there! I’m Annie from Wattlebird, and I’m so so excited to be guest posting on Sandy’s lovely blog. I have a fun little holiday DIY that I hope you’ll enjoy. So without further ado, I give you the updated Christmas Sweater!
Holiday sweaters get a really bad rap, and for good reason. I’m all for being festive, but you don’t need an entire scene of some squirrels sledding on your sweater in order to show off your Christmas spirit. So I decided that since most holiday sweaters are inherently ugly, I’d make my own.
I’m a really big fan of Peter Pan collars right now, so I decided to add one of those to my cardigan. I’m not a great seamstress, but it was fairly easy. Here’s a great tutorial on how to make one.
For the sleeves, I added some really simple cuffs that remind me of Santa’s suit. I think I might add some vintage buttons to them as well.
The most fun part of this project for me was the bow. I’m absolutely in love with bows right now. I drew this one free-hand but you can definitely use a stencil. Here’s a great source for bow stencils (and some other holiday themes as well).
I hope you guys decide to try this project and I hope you have as much fun with it as I did!
Come back later today for a giveaway by me! 🙂
This is clever! I would’ve never thought of this! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
very cute and fun diy! love the bow 🙂
that is too cute!
aw it’s so pretty! xx
Too darn cute!
What a cute idea!
This is such a cute post and I love the 1950s style of the sweater — it’s definitely better than all those sequined disasters out there (in my basement).
What fun!!! I love it!!!
