Memorial Day Miscellany

Oh dear, it’s Monday again… but at least this one is a Holiday, woohoo!  And now all of the Chang brothers are happily married, my mother-in-law is ecstatic!  :)   And what else does Monday mean??  It’s the perfect time to share things that I don’t want to put in a full blown blog post, but I want to share nonetheless.  Thanks Carissa for letting me be random!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

(1) Last week when I checked into my hotel, I walked into a room full of men’s dress shirts, dirty socks, and a laptop and TV on.  Housekeeping did not do such a great job cleaning up the room… and in case you’re wondering, I was promptly checked in to a different room which happened to be properly cleaned.  No, it was not housekeepings’ fault,  I was given the wrong room.  Thank goodness no one was in there when I walked in, that could have been bad..

(2) See this bad boy and this macho man pictured below??  These are my newest Polaroid babies.  Oh, and I happened to pick up a vintage suitcase pictured on the right (the cream and grey one), the inside is unsightly and I plan on redoing it, will blog about that laters!

The Polaroid Impulse came with 3 packs of 1998 film which I don’t think are usable, but we shall see.  I’m so thankful that The Impossible Project makes the film now but you pay quite a hefty price for it… at least compared to 1990.  If you are beginner to Polaroid photography, make sure to check out One Pearl Button’s blog for some great tips!  You know, I really used to be a pro at using a Polaroid when I was ten…

(3) I ate a Subway Meatball Marinara on Italian Herbs and Cheese last week.  It was topped with cucumbers, spinach (to make it healthy) and then the grand finale??  Chipotle Southwest Sauce all over it, baby.  YUM!  You think it’s gross huh?  I think you should try it first before talking smack about it!

(4) My stuffed monkey, Jojo, says HI!  We left Koko, Bebe, and Lulu at home… are we bad parents??

(5) I’m totally wanting to go on a segway tour.  You have to admit, it looks kind of ridiculous, but sooooo cool at the same time.  Have you been on one before?  Did you enjoy it?

By the way, that’s an illustration I drew up of my Jojo on a segway, NOT!  You think I can draw that well???  In my dreams!  Click on the pickity pic for the source.

(6) Got a hybrid Toyota Prius (or as my friend Christine likes to call it, the car of the future!) as my rental car last week, spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to turn that dang thing on.  No, you don’t just push the Power button… you press the brake AND push the Power button.  If you didn’t know either, now you can say you learned something today!  Also, drove about 2.5 hours on the highway and spent only $2 on gas, wow!

Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  I had a great time seeing family again as well as meeting some new ones! :)

Flavors to Follow: Cameras

I love photography, I love cameras, I love taking pictures.  If you didn’t know, now you know.  And if you really didn’t know, wait, how could you not know??  All throughout high school and college I was deemed the “Picture Queen” and by picture, it had always been with a Canon Point & Shoot.  Not until recently did I get my fabulous Canon 50D from my hubby which I loves!  It’s my baby, I’m constantly thinking about it and ways to accessorize it, whether it be camera strap covers, new lenses, lens hood, etc.  Anyhow, since I’ve been on the road and away from my baby for the past week, here’s some camera related inspirations for you (and for me)!

click: little cutie with a camera seen on a beautiful mess
stick: camera laptop decal seen on photojojo
soft: polaroid camera plushy seen on etsy
wear: oh snap! necklace on angel face designs
inspire: lola’s room seen on happiness is…
stamp: camera stamp seen on angelina la dawn
strap: click camera strap cover made by sheyb
wed: engagement session seen on streets and stripes

Don’t worry ya’ll, I’ll be reunited with my Canon 50D very soon and I’ll be snapping pictures of my brother-in-law as he becomes a married man on Sunday!  And I also happen to be their wedding coordinator too, an awesome title to add to my growing resume.  :)   Congrats you two, love you to bunches!  :)

{shop} {blog}

I’m so excited to share the photography of Georgianna Lane with you.  Georgianna is an absolute sweetheart and you can surely see this in her soft, dreamy photographs.  She has the most AMAZING pictures of flowers I have ever seen, in my life.  And not only are just pretty flowers, but the photos are styled perfectly and she has such a vast knowledge about each flower she photographs as well.  Her shop contains many  5 x 7, 8 x 8, and 8 x 12 Fine Art Prints and each and every one of her blog posts are filled with such beautiful color and are sure to make you *swoon*!  And guess what??  One of my lucky readers (yes, that means you) will be able to WIN one of her lovely photos! But let’s get to know Georgianna just a little bit better before I give you the deets on how you can win…

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a freelance photographer, writer and designer, living on a wooded wildlife habitat in north Seattle with my husband. Although I love photographing anything, I currently specialize in flowers and gardens.

How did you start getting into photography?  What equipment do you use?
I got my first camera when I was about 8 or 9 so have been taking photographs my whole life. But I would say I’ve been pretty much full time for the last six years. I use all Nikon cameras and lenses and have been shooting digital since Nikon’s first digital SLR came out in 2002. Digital bodies go obsolete very quickly so I’ve invested in the best possible lenses. Currently I use 60mm f/2.8 macro, 105mm f/2.8 macro, 24-70 f/2.8 zoom, 80-200 f/2.8 zoom, 12-24 f/4 DX and 50mm f/1.4. I have bought and sold a lot of equipment over the years, but I still keep several film cameras for special circumstances!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
Inspiration can be found in so many unexpected places. Nature is probably my biggest inspiration, my own garden and all the other gardens I’m fortunate to visit. I’m very inspired by memories and moods and emotions. It’s more important to me to capture an atmosphere rather than just record how something looks, and to consider how the image will effect the viewer and what feelings it will conjure up in them, from their own memories and experiences. I try to find elements of serenity that will bring peaceful moments to others.

Have any advice for anyone who is thinking about starting up a shop?
Take some care choosing your Etsy shop name. You can’t change it, although I understand Etsy is working on revising their programming to enable a shop name change. Keep your shop stocked with a variety of items, offer specials and most importantly, promote! Having a shop does not guarantee sales. Think of it as a storefront – if you had a little store in a town, you’d have to promote to get people to come in, not rely only on them walking in from the street.

I just love that everything in her shop is drawn from inspiration around her home and nature!  Don’t her photos just capture a certain atmosphere or show off an emotion more than just record a scene??  I think that’s the most important photography lesson that I can take away to grow in my own photography as well.  So on to the giveaway details, here’s what you can win, a print of this gorgeous photo to hang up in your house (or wherever you like)!

BBQ Turned Impromptu A&L E-Session

On a breezy and chilly Saturday afternoon in May, a group of friends gathered together for a delicious potluck/BBQ.

The girls in purple wore tights and the girls in pink wore jeans, we didn’t plan it but were totally on the same wardrobe wavelength.

Bunny even decided to come out and eat as well, don’t worry, she didn’t eat meat, she had cereal!

But as the afternoon went on, these two newly engaged lovebirds just could not stay away from one another…

So an impromptu engagement session commenced on the deck…

Then moved down to the backyard…

And they were soo happy they had to jump for joy!

Then they frolicked along until they were tired…

And posed for me as I played around with sun flare! ;)   Yes, I know it needs some work, anybody got any tips??

Congrats to Ankur and Lilian on your engagement!!

Sweet Shot Day

I’ve linked up my favorite photo from this session to Sweet Shot Tuesdays!  I’ve been doing that for a few weeks now and I think you should too!!  To bring you some regularity in my blog, I think Tuesdays will be “Picture This” posts from now on.  :)

My First Miscellany Monday

I’m a random kind of girl, just ask my husband, so I’ve decided to link up to my very first miscellany monday.  For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s pure random, for your reading and viewing pleasure.

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

So here goes…

(1) My husband and I had figurines of ourselves on our wedding day made in Taiwan.  I’ll show you the pictures later, and yes, we’re THAT vain.

(2) The element pictured below was found in my backyard.  We don’t know what it is.  I think there was a meteor shower back in 1970 when our house was built and this piece just happened to land in our backyard.

(3) I eat two gummy vitamins each day because that is the suggested dosage.  One time I ate four.

(4) I’ve been looking all over for a nude pair of pumps. Because they are such a neutral color, I feel like they would match with ANYTHING, browns, blacks, whites, colors… I mean your skin matches with all of these colors right?

I’ve narrowed my search down to these two shoes…. but I have a dilemma.  The Target Mossimo Virginia Pumps (left) are only $29.99 but I can’t find them anywhere in size 7.5.  The Christian Louboutin Simple 70s Leather Pump (right) I can find in my size, but they are $595.  Here’s where you come in…. if you can find me the Target shoes in size 7.5 and are willing to ship them to me, I will pay you back and throw in a little surprise present for you.  Or if anyone can hand over $595, that would be wonderful as well.  I’m not kidding about the Target shoes.

(5) My husband has had his Toyota Corolla for 15 years.  It’s in good condition and only has approximately 100,000 miles on it.  We’re ready to sell it, I’m taking bids now, let’s start it at $25,000, hey we’ve got bills to pay too!

(6) I miss my adorable nephew Evan, A LOT.  He lives in Los Angeles, but he has some country in him as well, he must get it from me.  Pictures taken by my amazing photographer sister-in-law!

(7) In 2010, I’ve spent 105 days in Missouri, 18 days in Ohio, 8 days in Minnesota, 5 days in California, 4 days in Michigan and 4 days in Nevada.  I’m currently in Cleveland, Ohio and will be in Columbus, Ohio later this week for my brother-in-law’s wedding!  By next Monday, make that 25 days in Ohio.  Why do I keep finding myself in Ohio?  And why is there a pizza joint on every block?  Didn’t know Ohio was known for their pizza.

(8) I tend to use electronic sarcasm a lot, just so you know.

Hope you have a wonderful week, we have a holiday weekend to look forward to, yay!
