Hi friends! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been a Flavors To Follow but don’t worry, I didn’t forget about it.  In my two year blogiversary feedback, many of you said that you loved these posts so I felt like it was about time I owed you one.  This week’s current obsession is color blocking.  This trend has been around for a couple months now but I’ve finally just got around to embracing it.  It’s basically where you pair a few bold colors and wear them together, or the colors can appear in a single item.  There’s so much you can do with this as the color combinations are endless!  Some of my faves are turquoise + aqua, black + white + coral, cobalt + turquoise, neons + neutrals and green + yellow!  Here’s a few items I have found and love!

1 These DSW black pumps with a touch of red (and blue) hot!
2 Loving the yellow and green pairing of this Nine West satchel.  I think it’s about time I buy a new bag, don’t ya think? Who’s with me?
3 This Ayca knit scarf is quite the beauty and sure to keep you warm too in these cold winter days.
4 What a gorgeous pairing of coral with black and white in this LaPetitPaillette necklace, what a great contrast!
5 Go bold with color blocking in this Asos skirt.
6 Or be a little more subtle and sweet with this Shopkempt dress!
7 Be comfy casual chic in this flowy Forever 21 top.

P.S. The winner of the Fresh Tangerine earring giveaway is Kait from Pretty Things!  Congrats girl!  Please email me at sandyalamode(at)gmail(dot)com with your mailing address and we’ll get the earrings sent out to ya!

What are your favorite colors to color block together?

Hi friends!  It’s almost the weekend and I am SO excited.  This has been a busy week at work and I’m just looking forward to unwinding and relaxing.  We have a game night and another Thanksgiving dinner planned with friends (can’t wait for more pumpkin desserts), once Baby a la mode comes it will be a lot harder to just go hang out with friends on a whim, ya know?  Lately, I’ve been super obsessed with all things sequins.  I guess it’s the season as it’s always fun to sparkle a little at those Christmas and New Years parties!  Here are a few that I looouuurve!! :)   Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

1 Let your hair make a statement with this adorable Ruche bow hair clip (you know I have a soft spot for bows).
2 These Yesstyle boots are will keep you dancing all night long!
3 This Shopkempt skirt would be so perfect for a night out with your significant other of your girl friends!
4 Peter pan collar and polka dots, such a great combo for a shirt from Chicwish!
5 Pair this Asos sequined jacket with a plain outfit for instant fabulousness.
6 And lastly, who says your staple little black dress can’t be one with Francesca’s sequins all over it?
7 Such a timeless little dress with a removable sequined collar from Modcloth.
8 This Sosie top look so comfy and so glam at the same time, love it!

Have you entered the $35 credit giveaway to the lovely Seek First rosette accessories shop?

Are you a fan of sequins?

Flavors To Follow – Fair Isle

It’s that time again… it’s the time to divulge my new favorite fall trend, and that would be fair isle.  I seriously had to google it to find out the exact word for it and why it was called that, basically it’s a certain knitting technique to create patterns with different colors.  Makes sense.  Not going to lie, I’ve already bought different pieces in fair isle, so you may be seeing them in outfit posts coming up.  :)

1 I have an obsession with sweater dresses and this AE one is no exception!
2 These Modcloth gloves scream fall, fashion, and warmth… great gift idea for Cold Hands, Warm Hearts participants!
3 Leggings are in, fair isle is in (at least I think so), so these Nordstrom ones are perfect!
4 I’ve never ordered from Asos before, but I absolutely adore that shop and LOVE this long cardigan. I’m always looking for longer tops to go over my ever expanding belly.
5 These UO slippers are darling and they look super warm for walking around on hardwood floors and tile.
6 Ponchos, like this one from Revolve Clothing, are SO versatile and comfy, just throw them on over an undershirt, skinny jeans and boots and your outfit is made!
7 Add a pop of color to your outfit and keep warm with this Lori’s Shoes snood!
8 And everyone needs a soft cozy J.Crew sweater for going out or for sitting by the fireplace.

Whew, what a crazy busy week this has been and thank goodness we’re at the end of it!  Work is increasingly busy as I’m trying to train the newbies to be able to take over for me while I’m gone on maternity leave, my computer crashed twice this week, all of the Cold Hands, Warm Hearts partner emails went out on Tuesday/Wednesday (if you haven’t received yours, email us at coldhandswarmheartsswap@gmail.com) and went to Child Birth class on Thursday (tip to preggos from the labor nurses: don’t write down your birth plan because the opposite will probably happen)!  This weekend I’m excited to just relax, relax, relax.  Right now we have absolutely NO PLANS, and I love that. :)

Don’t forget to enter the MoxieMandie giveaway to win a sweet chevron/floral pillow!

What do you think?  Are you a fan of Fair Isle?

Photobucket
Hi friends (old and new)!  Today, I am joining in on the October Followers Fest hosted by the lovelies:

With the Fall season in full force right now, there’s a bunch of things that get me super excited about it… such as pumpkin desserts, apple cider, wearing scarves and boots, leaves, and more!  It’s also a nice break from the hot, humid Summers we face here in Kansas City (although not really looking forward to Winter just yet, let’s not talk about that).  Here’s a little collage I put together to show off some of my Fall Favorites.  :)

1 This photo just screams beauty and fall.
2 Loving the colors in this Aisle To Aloha Fallen Leaves canvas painting.
3 A scrumptious looking pumpkin dessert, need I say more?
4 What a fun little craft idea, don’t you think?
5 A girl can never own enough bags, like this Nine West one!
6 What a fun and cozy little dining room setup for fall~!
7 Kind of just love everything about this outfit, especially the leg warmers.
8 I would love to end each fall day with this refreshing apple cider cup.

Hope you all enjoy this upcoming beautiful fall weekend!  It’ll be a much needed relaxing one for me as I need to soak up the last bits of this year before I turn another year older on Tuesday.  ;)   But wait, before you go…

P.S. Have you entered the Yellow Heart Art GIVEAWAY for an 8″x10″ print yet?

P.P.S. And how about the ISOTONER smarTouch gloves GIVEAWAY to kick off the Cold Hands, Warm Hearts Swap?

Flavors To Follow – Vintage Baby Boy Clothes

We’re at 31 weeks today and the D date is looming closer and closer!  The nursery is, I’d say, half done (can’t wait to show you the big reveal next month) and our baby has more clothes than ever.  Seriously, anything in baby size is just so much cuter, don’t you agree?  Lately, I’ve not only been obsessed with filling his closet with just clothes, but since I’ve been on a thrifting kick lately, I can’t help myself but be drawn to VINTAGE baby clothes.  Seriously, I should just keep all of baby’s clothes so that he can pass them on to his boy one day… OK, hold on, back to reality.  Anyhow, here are a few on etsy that have caught my eye!

1 As winter is quickly approaching, this Corduroy Jacket from The Young Team is sure to keep babies delicate body warm!
2 It’s yellow, it’s grey, it’s got stripes and animals.  It’s onesie perfection from Twitch Tots.
3 This Hart and Sew vest just screams Christmas baby to me (although we’re hoping that our baby is not actually born ON Christmas).
4 This Little Slugger outfit from 3 Ring Circus is great for an active little guy.
5 Ms Tips Vintage sure found a keeper in this one.  Boys and their trains… and a cool vintage plaid pattern!
6 It’s never too early for boys to be suited up, just makes things a little bit more handsome, thanks Blue Bird Lucy!
7 Loving the contrast of bright blue and red on this Helicopter Onesie from Salvage House.

This weekend is going to be a busy one for us.  On Friday night, I’ll be heading down to the annual Holiday Mart in town with a few girl friends.  I’m hoping that I won’t do TOO much damage to the wallet w/ all the craft, food, holiday shops that will be displayed there, we’ll see.  Then on Saturday, I will be taking a half day photography class and field trip.  Can’t wait to capture some more pictures of my city and learn more about shooting in Manual mode.  And then on Sunday (eeks!) we’re taking our maternity photos with my friend from Ria Photography (hopefully the weather holds up)!  :)   See you next week!

What are your favorite online shops to buy vintage clothing (doesn’t have to be baby clothing)?

Gussy
This week’s Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop prompt is RED.  You see, the color red and I have a love/hate relationship.  Growing up, I was always a pink girl and NEVER a red girl.  It wasn’t until recently that I started opening up to red and all it’s possibilities.  I started with red paired with black and white and once I did, I fell in love.  It’s such a bold, fun, color and really catches people’s attention!  I’ve always secretly wanted to try out red lipstick but haven’t gotten the courage to do so yet, maybe one day.  :)   But anyhow, this season in particular, I’ve been infatuated with a particular shade of red… and that shade would be RUST.  I can’t really explain why I’m so in love with it, but I just am.  I guess it reminds me of Fall and it just goes so well with shades of burnt orange, browns, and even pinks!  So here we go with some of my favorite rust finds!

You’d have to live under a rock (or just not read my blog) if you weren’t already aware that I heart chevron.  Chevron, anything.  This little Alexis clutch from A03 Designs is no exception!

I’m digging all the colors in this La Z Boy accent chair.  I think it would go GREAT in our hearth room!

These bridesmaids bouquets found on Style Me Pretty stopped me in my tracks… errr my seat.  The colors are just stunning together and it’s so perfect for a fall wedding!

First seen on Selective Potential, this rust dress from Urban 1972 is on my wishlist.  Love the length and the flowiness!

What a great collection of Mandolin Goose vintage frames!  Love the distressed look!

These sweet and simple Linkel Designs earrings need to be on my ears.  Mmm, yes.

Every guy’s dream.  A whole lot of food and football.  Way to go Girl In Gear Studio!

Keep your baby warm this fall with this gender neutral Sewn Natural organic baby blanket!

These Les Nouvelles pumps are so fun – love the color blocking!

P.S. Have you entered the Jaclyn1423 jewelry shop credit GIVEAWAY yet?

Happy first day of Autumn friends (on Friday)!  :)   So I know I’ve blogged about this before (a year ago) but I couldn’t help myself to blog about it again.  Fall weather is just PERFECT for scarves and each year I find myself wanting to buy more and more and more.  Marvin thinks I have too many, but a girl can never have enough scarves right?  They are such a great accessory, don’t you agree (say yes!)?

1) Feathers are totally IN right now, like the ones on this Reverie scarf!

2) Loving the green color, fun fabrics and designs on this Le Mode scarf!

3) aPearantly Sew used one of my fabrics and made a beautiful infinity scarf~!

4) Knit Frekkles HAND KNIT this striped scarf with all of my favorite colors, so pretty!

5) Kind of in love with Leah Duncan’s designs and shop, and the same goes for this Elle Summer Scarf!

6) The Soaktree has some crochet scarves in pretty colors to keep you warm this fall/winter!

7) This Modcloth scarf is really Too Hoot for Words!  ;)

And just because I totally needed this guide for myself, I thought I’d share it with you all.  A few different tutorials of ways to wear scarves!  I’m so boring I always do #1… but I intend to branch out this season, hold me to it guys.

Flavors To Follow – All I Wanna Wear Is Dresses

The title of this post says it all.  There’s no doubt that as my belly continues to get bigger and rounder and larger, the more I don’t want to wear pants.  Oops, that probably came out wrong, but rather, all I want to wear are dresses!  Because pants, even maternity ones can be restricting at times and I swear my thighs and hips are increasing in size as well as my belly.  So without further ado, here are some of the dresses that have caught my attention!

1 beautiful fall dress with velvet collar and button details from tea and tulips!

2 in love with the pops of red on this vintage 70s jumper from ms tips!

3 it’s vintage, it’s chevron, what more is there to say?  a great style for life dress!

4 did you see the giveaway this week for a chevron scarf?  here’s something else you can buy from the new shop stitched and adorned!

5 the color of this velour dress from salvage house is just gorgeous, and it comes with the belt too, score!

6 reverie market by oh, hello friend had it’s grand opening sale of reverie this week and i’m currently eyeing this geometric dress!

7 are you a seamstress? then this dress from red velvet was made for you!  wouldn’t you say?

This weekend, Marv and I plan on doing some more furniture shopping for our humble little abode, hopefully we’ll be able to pick up a rug or two finally.  After we got our hardwood floors redone, they told us not to put any rugs down for 3 weeks and so we decided to play it safe and wait at least 4 weeks.  There’s still quite a bit of boxes to be unpacked as we can’t even park 2 cars in the garage yet b/c of all the clutter.  And there’s still a ton of baby a la mode’s clothes that need to be hung up on hangers and I also want to paint (rather want Marvin to paint) the knobs on the baby dresser the same grey color as the walls.  So yea… a fun weekend of errands and chores and unpacking we will have!  Hope you have an amazing one!

Don’t click away until you’ve entered the Stitched and Adorned chevron scarf giveaway!

OH yea, and who else is excited for Dancing With The Stars and The Sing Off to start on Monday?  This girl can’t wait!

Flavors To Follow – Rugs

Woohoo, it’s Friday friends!  Who’s excited?  This girl is.  I could get used to 3 day work weeks (I took vacay on Tues.)!  It’s no surprise that I found a new home design element to obsess over this past week.  And this week that element was rugs!  When we got our hardwood floors refinished, we were told not to put rugs down for 3 weeks… and now that the 3 weeks is up, we still haven’t bought any rugs to put down yet.  I’m thinking of putting one in the entryway, dining room, hearth room and eat in kitchen.  My plan is to use those rugs to brighten up the spaces and make it feel more like a cozy home of ours.  Here’s a few I’ve been eyeing…

i am loving the colors and detail of this wool finnia rug!  what a great pop of color to any room!

if you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ll know that i love lace and doilies!  i mean look at my banner~

loving the vintage charm of this faded rose printed rug

this simple dwell studio rug caught my eye b/c of the color, simplicity and design!

yes yes yes, i need this romantic floral scarf rug!  the flowers and colors are SO beautiful together, don’t you agree?

chevron, enough said, you know how obsessed i am with this pattern
and you know i couldn’t go through this post without an alphabet soup rug so perfect for a nursery! ;)

Is your home filled with rugs?  Do you put them on hardwood floors or carpet too?  Have any suggestions for good rug stores?

P.S. Have you entered the Yellow Plum Blossoms GIVEAWAY?
